This article examines the practice of Qur’an reading in the perspective of Living Qur’an study with a focus on the pesantren environment in Java, which is one of the centers of Islamic education rich in tradition and values. A qualitative approach is used through in-depth interviews and participatory observation to explore the dynamics, reasons, and implications of Qur’an reading in Islamic religious life and education. In addition, this study also includes how the reading process has adapted to the challenges of modern times and the needs of contemporary society. The literature review touches on the theory of Living Qur’an which emphasizes the importance of the meaning of sacred texts in the context of daily life, as well as recent works that support a critical analysis of this practice. The findings of the study show that the reading of the Qur’an not only plays a role as a ritual, but also as a means of reflection and transformation of Islamic values in the life of the Islamic boarding school, encouraging students to not only understand, but also internalize the teachings in a developing social context. This article presents practical recommendations for the development of Living Qur’an studies, including innovative pedagogical methods, as well as further research opportunities related to implementation and innovation in Islamic educational practices relevant to today’s global context.
