Abstract

Quadratic equation is an important material in mathematics that requires understanding of concepts and procedural skills. However, students often experience errors in solving quadratic equation problems, especially in understanding the problem, transforming the form, and writing the final answer. This study aims to explore the implementation of Newman error analysis-based tutoring on students' understanding in solving quadratic equation problems. The research used a qualitative approach with the type of case study of a grade X high school student who had learning difficulties. The instruments used included a description test, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that before tutoring, students made four types of errors from Newman's five categories. After tutoring, all errors were eliminated. The findings suggest that error analysis-based tutoring can significantly improve students' comprehension, solving accuracy, and reflective ability in mathematics learning.
